Piopio Community Fruit & Veg Stand

The Latest Surplus:
As most of you will know our Community Stand hasn’t been open during Level3 lockdown and won’t reopen until such time as it’s safe to do so. However, as you might expect, a little thing like lockdown didn’t hold us back from sharing the seasonal bounty of heirloom tomato plants! Over 500 seedling plants were shared with members of our wider community, as far south as Mokau and Waikawau.
Some even made their way into Maniapoto Maara Kai Roopu , the community garden in Te Kuiti.

Necessity being the mother of invention, we set up trestle tables inside our front entrance gate and had people call in to pick up “click and collect” pre-orders made via the stand’s FB page over a number of days. There were even some seedling pumpkins and peach trees on offer. It was much like planning the Normandy invasion the first few days, but we got there.

I counted over 87 pick-ups. Trust all those plants are now in the ground and growing away--well supported by stakes, tied, and flowering.

Will keep everyone posted on reopening via the stand’s FB page, signage, and our Instagram feed. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions/issues.
