Piopio Primary School Fundraise for Cyclone Gabrielle Victims

AtPiopioPrimarySchoolweallheardaboutCycloneGabrielleandwefeltsosorryaboutthedevastationthatitcaused.Room6ourseniorclassunderstoodhowscaryitwouldbewakinguponedayandfindingthatyourbelongingsaregone.Room6wantedtohelpinsomeway,sotheydecidedtohaveaMarketDay,whichtheydecidedtohaveonTuesdaythe28thofMarch.Over6weekstheyplannedtheirownstalls.Theyhadtofindtheresourcesfortheirstallsandpurchaseprizesforthegames.Theyendedupwith19stalls.Someofthestallswere,bowlateacher,balloonpop,targetshot,baking,beanbagtoss,bottleflipandeggandspoonrace.Theydecidedonhavingtokenstobuyanitemorhaveaturnatanactivity.StudentleadersfromPiopioCollegecametohelpoutatthestalls.Weinvitedourlocalschools,ourschoolfamiliesandcommunitymemberstocomealongtoourMarketDay.TheyALLcame!!Therewasacentral‘bank’thatcollectedmoneyinexchangeforthetokens.Itwassobusythatwewererunningoutoftokens.Theafternoonwasfullofexcitement,laughter,chatterandsmilingfaces.Room6endedupraising$1800!!Theydecidedtosplittheirprofitsbetween3kurawhowereaffectedbythecyclone.Thekurawere;TinuiSchool,ManutukeSchool and HukarereGirlsCollege.Theschoolsweresoappreciativeofreceiving$600toreplacedamagedresourcesandthekindthoughtsthatwereexpressedtothemwhenroom6wroteletterstoeachschool.Weareincrediblyproudofourseniortamarikiwhodemonstratedwhanaungatanga(caring)towardsothers.Theclasswouldn’thaveachievedthisamazingresultwithoutthesupportofWhaeaLindaandMrsWhitehead.
