This is the official visitor website for Piopio, a quaint little village on State Highway 3, south of the world famous Waitomo Caves and north east of the Taranaki coastline. Piopio village is home to award winning 'The Fat Pigeon Cafe', a Museum and a surprising variety of retail shops, considering its small size.

The district is large and well serviced by a network of rural roads, ideal for exploring many of our dramatic and picturesque landscapes, for example, limestone/karst formations, pockets of native bush, rugged hills, river valleys and rolling productive farmland.

Piopio is a neighbour to the popular and world famous Waitomo Caves and surrounding area, one of the top adventure tourism spots in New Zealand, particularly black water rafting, caving and abseiling.
