Special Perendale life memberships awarded

IN MAY of this year during the NZ Perendale AGM & Ward tour through the King Country and Taranaki, two very special honours were handed out.

Life membership for the Perendale Sheep Society was awarded to Lyn Proffit and to Jeff Proffit posthumously. Surrounded by family, friends and NZ Perendale members Lyn was surprised by the request to come up on stage for the presentation, and the emotions all round were obvious to see.

Jeff and Lyn Proffit are the founders of Raupuha Stud. They have been involved in the Perendale Sheep Society and the Shorthorn Society from the beginning. Over their 45 year involvement with the Perendale Sheep Society they have, between the two of them, covered many roles within the Society and that community. From wool competitions, setting up the North Island Ram Fair, meat competitions, running a Perendale stand at the National Fieldays, to president and secretary for many events.

Keep it in the family? 30 years ago Jeff was president of the Perendale Sheep Society, and this year his son Russell has taken on that role, and it looks like the involvement with the breed is to continue for a lot longer yet.

That’s our bit of news from our slice of paradise in the Mahoenui Valley. Keep Living The Dream! From the team at Raupuha Stud.
