Āria School celebrates Te Wiki o te Reo Māori

From September 11-18, as a country, we celebrated Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.

At Āria School all our students start the day celebrating and learning te reo Māori in the library for a 30-minute Te Ao Māori session exploring and practising the reo and listening to traditional stories related to our area, among other things.

Our tuakana–teina (Tuakana-teina is a concept from te ao Māori and refers to the relationship between an older (tuakana) person and a younger (teina) person) groupings give all students a chance to be supported to practice their reo daily.

This is an amazing way to start our day and always starts and ends with a karakia (blessing) for a happy and fulfilling school day ahead.
