KC River Care Update

2023 has certainly been a big year for us. From the whole committee, we thank you for your support. Your support makes our work much more meaningful and impactful in the community.

This year, like other catchment groups across New Zealand, our funding from MPI has reduced which means we rely more heavily on sponsorship and membership fees to fund projects and events. If you’ve been thinking about becoming a member, now is the time to join. Please contact our co-ordinator Anna Nelson for more info.

Our work
We’re continuing to work on options to support farmers to complete their own Fresh Water-Farm Plans. We’re hoping to provide workshops, a digital tool, and a template to assist with the process from April/May 2024. We’re also currently exploring a carbon neutral farm pilot which is progressing well. Initial modelling on the three farms has been completed. Our plan is to hold field days next year to showcase our findings.

Funding Available - 1 Billion Tress Kick Start fund
We’ve made some adjustments to the funding criteria considering upcoming changes to Farm Plans. Now, having a Farm plan is no longer a requirement to access funding. Applications close in February, please visit our website for the applications form and more information.

New co-ordinator
We’re pleased to announce we have a new co-ordinator starting. As Anna starts to take a step back, Lana McCormick will join the team in February.
