World Famous Waitomo Caves and The Rugged Taranaki Coast

Piopio Playcentre News

TERM ONE went really quickly. We’ve had some new and returning families join us, said goodbye to some kids, got a Kaimahi appointed, playcentre mistreated, and we went on a little excursion.

Firstly, we’d like to welcome Greer Reeves and Tad, Tyla Galloway and Adelyn, and returning family Shanti Edwards and Tawera. It’s great to have new people coming along and joining our playcentre. On that note, we said farewell to two of our kids, as they turned 5... Abbie Brier and Levi Wenzlick. They are both attending Piopio primary and absolutely thriving.

We have also welcomed our new Kaimahi to our playcentre, Jess Lindsay. We are so stoked to have her join us and take over the admin side of playcentre, giving us more time to play with our kids.

Unfortunately, over term one we’ve turned up to playcentre on numerous occasions, to find damage, rubbish and missing items, which is a real shame. Recently we have had our corn picked and our pumpkins smashed. These were grown and meant to be enjoyed by the children attending playcentre. We love sharing our playground space with the wider community. We don’t want to have to limit the use of the playground and would appreciate the community respect this space, take their rubbish home and not vandalise or mistreat the equipment and buildings. We would also like our missing Dshackles for the swings returned.

At a recent working bee, we decided to reopen our playground after 6 months of it being off limits, due to the contamination from the flooding. After all the talk about different options on how to stop it happening again, they have decided to just replace the bark for now. That being said, we have a new person appointed to look after the property so hopefully they may address this.

We ended term one with a little local excursion to the Piopio playground, followed by an Easter egg hunt and then a shared lunch, which was enjoyed by all. So, it’s been reasonably busy with people coming and going, and numerous shared morning teas to celebrate all sorts.

If you’re new or not so new, to the community and would like to know more about our playcentre please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Jo 021 1487556 or email [email protected]
