Welcome to Piopio, A Thriving Village Nestled Between The
World Famous Waitomo Caves and The Rugged Taranaki Coast

From WDC Councillor Gavin Todd

OUR ANZAC DAY services in Te Kuiti, Piopio and Mokau were well attended, and it was great to see so many children come along with their parents. Thank you to the volunteers who helped set things up, especially the Piopio Fire Brigade who helped with road management. Thanks also to our student representatives who gave well-thought-out and enthusiastic addresses.

During the recent school holidays ther ewere a number of fun programmes for children, put on by local businesses and individuals. Sheryl Johnson ran a baking day in Piopio and had a number of local children come and do baking with her. I understand that she had more children than spaces to fill so a few missed out on a fun day.Shoppington in Te Kuiti ran free craft days where children could come along and make something creative to take home, and the TeKuiti Library staff ran activity days for children.A big thank you to all those involved in putting on these programmes.

Council has been involved in receiving submissions concerning the land fill, Mokau sea wall and Waikato Waters Done Well. It is good to see submissions coming in and people taking an interest in what is happening in the district. We have had two meetings in Mokau concerning the sea wall, and these have been well attended with a wide range of ideas put forward. A reminder to be on the lookout for water leaks and report them to Council. Thanks to Gordon Walker from Piopio who pointed me in the direction of five water leaks, which Council was able to fix.

Due to the upcoming elections, in which I have decided to stand again, this will be the last time I will be able to put out correspondence as a local Councillor. Under local body rules, all current Councillors are barred from corresponding under the Council banner, within 3 months of an election. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any concerns or queries you might have.Gavin [email protected]
